One Month

Sweet Emory, you are one month old today!

(You do this pose a lot and I think it's SO funny!!!)

It seems like we JUST brought you home from the hospital!

So, what's been going on around here??
Some napping..

Lots of visitors...

Meeting your great Mamaw and great Papaw for the first time!
Your first snow day (1-17-13)! We didn't get a picture of you outside because it was too cold!
Your umbilical cord stump FINALLY fell off on your 3 week birthday so you got your first real bath! You weren't crazy about it though!

And you did a little playing on your play gym. You really just listen to the music but we call it playing anyway!

We haven't been back to the doctor since your 2 week check up but I can tell you're growing!

Eating: You LOVE to eat. You've been a great eater since day 1 and you haven't slowed down since! I started out breastfeeding you and everything was going perfectly but shortly after we got home, I got really sick. I stayed nauseated, vomited daily, and couldn't eat anything. My doctor couldn't find anything wrong with me so I did some research and found plenty of stories about nausea being related to breastfeeding. It made sense! A lot of the women said it went away by 8 weeks but physically I couldn't continue on for 6 more weeks just to "see" if it went away. After a lot of tears I decided to stop nursing you and we gave you formula. You had your first bottle when you were 2.5 weeks old and took it like a champ. You obviously don't care where your milk comes from as long as it comes, ha! (After my milk dried up completely, I stopped vomiting and the nausea disappeared so I'm positive it was related in some way!) We've had some hurdles with formula though. We started out with Similac Advance and that really hurt your belly. You would scream for hours at night and there's nothing we could do to make it better. We switched you to Similac Sensitive and that's what you're on now. We put gas drops in every bottle and it seems to really help. You're taking 3 oz every 3 hours during the day and at night we let you sleep as long as you can and just feed you whenever you wake up.

Sleeping: You're a great sleeper as long as we don't let you sleep the entire day! We try to follow the eat/wake/sleep schedule but we're definitely not very rigid with it! We usually have you down for the night by 11:00 and most of the time you're only waking once to eat (around 2:30-3ish) and then back down until 5:30-6ish. We swaddle you up (which you hate) and you sleep in your rock-n-play sleeper right beside our bed. I really like it because it keeps you at an incline so I don't worry about you choking.

Sizes: You're in size 1 diapers and size 0-3 months and some 3 month clothes (they fit in length but you have plenty of room in the middle)! You were only in the newborn diapers for 1 week and never wore any newborn clothes!

Play: We love to lay you on your play gym and watch you look at the little toys that dangle above. You love to kick your legs and move you arms all around! The swing is hit or miss most days. Some days you'll sit in it and look around and other days you want no part of it. We try tummy time but you usually end up falling asleep- we've got to work on that!

Some things we've learned about you: You love (more like slightly obsessed with) your paci! You're just a little impatient which you get from your Mama! If we don't get your clothes on, diaper changed, or bottle in your mouth fast enough, we're in trouble! You love to be on your tummy and sleep much better that way. (You're always supervised closely!)

Emory, we love you more than we ever thought possible! You bring SO much joy into our lives. Some days it's still hard for me to believe you're actually mine. Although we want to keep you little as long as possible, we can't wait to watch you grow and learn new things!

Happy one month precious girl!
We love you!!!

2 Day Weight Check

We had Emory's 2 day weight check this morning! I was very anxious to see what she weighed because she had dropped to 8 lbs 3 oz when we left the hospital. We were happy to hear she was back up to 8 lbs 6 oz! The nurse was very pleased and said everything else looked great!
God is good!

Emory's BIRTH-day!

Since we were having a scheduled induction, the morning before we left was pretty relaxed. We dropped the pups off at Pet Smart the night before and the house was spotless because I had already had two days off of work to get things ready. We had to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. so I was up and showering by 3:00 a.m.! It was a rainy, humid morning but we managed to get ready, get everything loaded in the car, and get to the hospital 15 minutes early!

One last belly picture before we left! 39 weeks 1 day!

We checked in, got all our paperwork, got my IV, and Pitocin started by 7:30!
I had the BEST nurse! So thankful for her!

Dr. T came by around 8:00, checked me, and broke my water. I was 1.5 cm dilated. Now it was a waiting game!

To pass the time we played games...

Had everyone guess Emory's birth weight and length..
And tried staying away from this guy- My Step-Dad who ALWAYS has the video camera in your face. (We'll all appreciate him one day for all the memories he's captured but at the time it IS very annoying and he thoroughly enjoys it!)
Dr. T was suppose to be back around 12:30 to check me. Well 12:30 came and went with no sign of Dr. T. By this point I was really feeling the contractions but I wanted to wait until he checked me before I got the epidural (I was offered it several times- they weren't withholding it). He ended up being caught up in surgery and didn't make it to my room until 2:30. I was miserable by this point and way past the point of needing the epidural. Pitocin is no joke. He checked me...STILL 1.5 cm. Are you kidding me??? Disappointed was hardly the word. He told me to go ahead and get the epidural and he would be back later to see if any progress was being made. I got the epidural which would have been no big deal but it's hard to sit still when your contractions are off the charts with very little time between them! Once the epidural was in I was able to relax a little while. Dr. T came back around 4:00 and checked me but I still hadn't made ANY progress. We discussed my options and he basically said he would wait as long as I wanted and give me every opportunity to progress or he would do a C-section whenever I decided I'd had enough. He was so so sweet about it and honestly by this point my mind was made up- I wanted the C-section! He said he would give John and I some time to think about it and would come back shortly. He came back around 4:45 and checked me again and I told him if I hadn't changed at all I definitely wanted the C-section. I was still the same so a C-section it was! Things moved very quickly after that and at 5:22 p.m. our sweet Emory was born!
Emory Elizabeth Weaver
8lbs 14 oz. and 21.5 in. long
Perfectly healthy!
Dr. T said we made the right decision because she had no intentions of coming out that day! She wasn't even lodged in the birth canal!
One proud Daddy!

After I got to look at her for a few minutes she went to the nursery with John and I went to recovery. I had to stay in recovery for an hour or so and I just remember feeling SO tired! I don't know how long it was because I lost all sense of time, but they brought her to me in recovery so we could try out breastfeeding. Little piglet latched on like a champ and didn't stop until the nurse made her!
The first time I got to hold her!
By far the happiest moment in my life!
We are so in love with this sweet angel baby and feel incredibly blessed that God chose us to be HER parents.

Third Trimester: Weeks 28-40

The third trimester brought A LOT more heartburn, very little sleep, and seemed to drag on and on. I took very few pictures because the camera was not my friend by this point!

28 weeks 4 days

At 36 weeks we began our weekly appointments! Every week we were so excited to go see if I had made any progress. We determined we have a very stubborn child! Despite a lot of extra walking, (John would drag me to Northpark mall after work to walk) every week it was the same story, no dilation but "thinning." At our 38 week appointment I kindly asked my doctor for a plan. Would we stay on Emory's time and risk possibly delivering a 9lb baby or would we give her an eviction notice??  After weighing the options, we all decided an induction at 39 weeks would be best! Emory's birthday will be January 9, 2013!!!
